Some new and some old.
I thought The Gunshy was dead for a bit. I think it's just sleeping though, waiting for me to wake it up. For now, I have a different kind of record to tell you about. More on that below, but first I'm going to try to explain where I've been. You can skip this part if you want. It might be a little boring.
After my daughter was born in 2017, I started getting pretty anxious about everything. Donald Trump was elected president a few months after she was born, and the combination of a new human to care for, almost losing my partner during labor, and a racist toddler running the country wasn't jiving.
Our "Undefeated" project was an attempt to funnel that anxiety into something productive and positive. It helped. I quit drinking and started trying to take better care of myself. I had even planned a short run of shows...for May 2020.
Covid hit, those shows were canceled, and we were all just trying not to lose our shit. The band scattered to different parts of the country, and I was feeling a little stale with the songs I was writing. I started writing and rewriting songs, paying attention to different things, and, well, trying to sing. I sent a few songs to one of my favorite humans, Andrew Bryant. He broke them apart and rebuilt them, which started us on a path to a record we recently finished. It's coming out next year. I'm excited and nervous about it.
I'm going to tour again. Hopefully that will happen next year too. It will be different. No more shots from the stage or after show drunken debauchery. That's going to be a little hard to get used to, but it's worth it.
I made a collection of some of the songs I've written over the last twenty years. If you're new to The Gunshy, it might be a good starting point. If you're not new, thanks for sticking around and maybe there's something here you haven't heard before.
This collection is free, so please feel free to share it if you feel inclined.
More soon.
